Tottenham star Harry Kane: Newcastle defeat was the kick up the butt we needed
HARRY KANE helped send Tottenham into the top four with his 30th goal of the calendar year on his 100th Spurs appearance - then said last week's defeat by Newcastle was the kick up the backside they needed.
Harry Kane scored Tottenham's first goal in their 2-0 win against Southampton
Tottenham's next challenge is Boxing Day's home match against Norwich and Kane is wary of a repeat of Spurs defeat in their previous match at White Hart Lane.
"Newcastle was probably the kick up the butt we needed," he said. "We had maybe got a bit complacent. We definitely won't be doing that against Norwich. They have had a good result against Man United and they will be full of confidence.
"And 2016 is going to be a big year for us. It's a very big opportunity, a lot of teams are getting unexpected results. The team is looking very good and now it's about winning over the Christmas period and really pushing up that league."
"We were there for the first 40 minutes but if you let the other team score from nothing it's going to be difficult for you," said midfielder Victor Wanyama.
"At the moment it is not working for us. We have had a lot of changes, so the team needs to gel more. We just need to fight more and show our character because we have tough games ahead."
