SPFL chief executive believes Scottish Premiership games abroad are an exciting innovation
Celtic and Dundee have held discussions over the possibility of playing a league game in the United States.
Boston or Philadelphia would be the potential destination to host the historic match, with the clubs planning to put a proposal to the SPFL.
However, Doncaster already supports the idea in principle.
“I certainly think it gives us an opportunity to see what the real market is for competitive football at that time of year.
“I think if you look, particularly at the top level, you’re going to see there’s more football played in the summer in any case.
“The June internationals will be an absolute stick-on reality for us from now on, which means the opportunity for a long break in the summer is going away.
“Therefore I think we have to look at ways to give the players a break somewhere, hence the winter break.
“And in order to generate the space for the winter break you have to be playing matches in the summer.
“I think this has given us the opportunity to do that.”
