Former England boss: Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney would take Chinese league to new heights
SVEN GORAN-ERIKSSON has called on Wayne Rooney to spread his wings and link up with him in China.
Wayne Rooney is being watched by the Chinese Super League
Suggestions of a move to the Chinese Super League for Rooney surfaced yesterday when it was reported that contact had been made between the league’s chiefs and Rooney’s representatives.
Rooney has seen his form nosedive this term and has netted just twice in the Premier League.
The 30-year-old is currently United’s only recognised striker with Anthony Martial out injured.
But Eriksson, who now coaches Shanghai SIPG has revealed why he would love to work with Rooney again.
“Football is becoming huge here and they have very big ambitions for the Chinese Super League,” Eriksson told Sun Sport.
“We already have famous players, like Robinho, Asamoah Gyan and Demba Ba, and they have brought something special.

“But of course Rooney is at another level.
“He is top, top, top — in the same category as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Everybody in China knows the superstar players like him. Rooney would take this league to another level, I have no doubt about that.”
