Why Jose Mourinho is in same situation as David Moyes was at Manchester United
JOSE MOURINHO'S only hope of keeping his job is to win the Champions League, claim reports on the continent.
Jose Mourinho's future at Chelsea is in question after a disastrous start in the league
Mourinho, 52, is under pressure to get results after overseeing Chelsea's disastrous start to the season.
The Blues currently sit 16th in the Premier League, having lost seven of their opening 12 top-flight games.
They are out at around 100/1 to defend their title and Spanish newspaper Sport claim his time at Stamford Bridge could soon be over unless Chelsea go far in Europe.
However, it is understood progression in Europe - where United got to the Champions League quarter-finals - delayed the decision to fire the Scot.
Once United were knocked out 4-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich Moyes got the boot and was replaced by assistant Ryan Giggs until the end of the season.
David Moyes was sacked by Real Sociedad this autumn
So far this term Mourinho's Chelsea have faired reasonably well in Europe.
They find themselves second in Group G after playing out two wins, a draw and a defeat.
Their next game is an away trip to Maccabi Tel Aviv next week before a home tie against Porto wraps up the stage.
As for Moyes, the former Everton boss was appointed Real Sociedad manager a year ago but this month was sacked after failing to maintain good results from the back end of last term.
