The Netherlands international joined the Red Devils in a £25million deal over the summer.
However, after arriving on a wave of expectancy, Memphis has found himself on the fringes of Louis van Gaal’s first team.
One goal in eight Premier League outings has failed to win over the United faithful.
But Memphis claims he has put on 5kg since moving to Old Trafford.
“Since I joined Manchester United I’ve gained five kilos," Memphis told Dutch paper Telegraaf as quoted by The Independent.
"And that’s not fat. Only muscle mass. It’s pretty bizarre. It’s also due to the heavy rhythm in England. I now weigh 85 kilos.
