NEWCASTLE have been boosted in their pursuit of Roma defender Ashley Cole.

That is according to Corriere dello Sport, who claim the Italian giants are looking to offload the 34-year-old in January.
Cole, who failed to make Rudi Garcia’s 21-man Champions League squad, has fallen out of favour at Roma and is yet to make an appearance this season.
The experienced left-back dropped down the pecking order following the arrival of Paris Saint-Germain loanee Lucas Digne in the summer.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea star reportedly rejected a return to the Premier League on transfer deadline day with Newcastle.

And now Magpies boss Steve McClaren, whose side sit one place above the relegation zone, is expected to renew his interest when the window reopens.
