Roy Hodgson gives verdict on Wayne Rooney's poor season with Manchester United
ROY HODGSON has given Wayne Rooney his backing despite enduring a 'difficult time' at Manchester United this season.

The striker was tasked with leading the line for United this term - a role that had added pressure after losing Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez.
However, he hasn't been in good form and has scored only two times in the Premier League as the Red Devils have struggled in front of goal.
But the 30-year-old grabbed an important late winner for United in the Champions League on Tuesday night against CSKA Moscow, sending them top of group B.
And Hodgson has given him his backing, highlighting the number of 'milestones' he has achieved this year.

"It was good to see him score a goal [against CSKA]," he said.
"It has been a difficult time for him so it was nice to see the other night he scored a crucial goal in a Champions League match.

"I congratulate him on that. He just turned 30 which is a milestone, he equalled Denis Law's record - another milestone.
"This autumn has been a great milestone period for him and I rejoice with him."
