Arsenal 2 - Everton 1: Gunners top the Premier League with goals from Giroud and Koscielny
ARSENAL moved top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Everton at the Emirates.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring for Arsenal
Olivier Giroud openend the scoring for the Gunners on his return to the starting XI, finishing off a ball in from Mesut Ozil with a deft header on 36 minutes.
Laurent Koscielny then doubled the Gunners lead just two minutes later - a free-kick whipped in by Santi Cazorla was nodded home by the Frenchman from close range.
Laurent Koscielny doubled Arsenal's lead in the second half
Everton though didn't give up the fight, and pulled one back a minute before half time - a fierce shot by Ross Barkley deflecting off Gabriel to spin into the net past Petr Cech.
Giroud went close to sealing the win midway through the second half, his curling effort struck the crossbar with Tim Howard duly beaten and Mathieu Flamini headed straight at the American when unmarked in the box.
The Gunners were almost made to pay for failing to see off the game as Romelu Lukaku clipped the top of the bar with a header while Cech did well to deny efforts from Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas.
However the Toffees couldn't find an equaliser and had a disappointing end to their afternoon in north London as Gareth Barry saw red on 93 minutes for a second yellow card after a challenge on Kieran Gibbs.
