Schweinsteiger may also be unavailable for Germany's final qualifying fixture against Georgia on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.
It's unclear if the German will be fit for United's trip to Everton on October 17.
The news comes as the latest injury scare for Louis van Gaal with striker Wayne Rooney ruled out of England's final two qualifiers as well as Marcos Rojo withdrawing from Argentina's squad this week.
Roy Hodgson's side have already qualified for next summer's tournament but will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten campaign when they face Estonia tomorrow night and Lithuania on Monday.
