The Germany international arrived at Anfield a year ago for £10million from Bayer Leverkusen, where he joined the summer before from Bayern Munich.
The 21-year-old, who has featured 51 times in all competitions for the Reds, believes he needed to make the move in order to take his career to the next level.
But Can admits he enjoyed his short time at the BayArena, having helped Bayer to an impressive third-place finish in the Bundesliga.
"I had a super time in Leverkusen and it was definitely the right decision to go from Bayern to there because in Munich I hardly played," Can said.

"But with all due respect to Leverkusen, Liverpool are another step higher. Liverpool are a bigger club and you can feel the history of the club.
"If you're on the pitch and you hear the fans singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' you get goosebumps."
