I'm a Liverpool soldier! Mamadou Sakho edges closer to Premier League return
MAMADOU SAKHO has described himself as a “Liverpool soldier” as manager Brendan Rodgers suggested the defender was closing in on a Premier League return.
Liverpool v Norwich - Premier League Preview
Sakho has slipped behind Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren in the pecking order at Anfield, but the frailties both his defensive rivals have displayed this season have boosted his hopes of a recall.
The centre-back made his first appearance of the season in Thursday’s Europa League stalemate with Bordeaux and is now hoping for the chance to feature against Norwich on Sunday.
“I'm always ready," he said. "I'm working and I'm a Liverpool soldier. And, when you call on me, I always rise to the challenge."
Liverpool rejected loan offers for the France international from AS Roma and Bayer Leverkusen in the August transfer window and want the player to sign a new contract.

But Sakho wants to play this season with Euro 2016 next summer.
Rodgers hailed Sakho’s performance against Bordeaux and said: “Sakho was immense at the back. He knows he has had to be patient and his attitude has been first class.
“He has trained very well, kept professional, done his extra work on his fitness and he has got his rewards for that.
“He certainly comes into the reckoning for the weekend against Norwich.”
