Arsenal relief as Besiktas get set to reveal £5.6m deal for Liverpool forward target Gomez
BESIKTAS are reportedly ready to surrender their interest in Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck after agreeing terms with Mario Gomez.
Mario Gomez is set to join Besiktas
The Turkish side are seeking a new striker after selling Demba Ba to Shanghai.
They were touted to be trailing Welbeck, with Turkish paper Aksam claiming an £8million bid would be enough to prise him away from the Emirates Stadium.
But fresh reports in Italy suggest Besiktas will instead confirm the arrival of Liverpool target Mario Gomez from Fiorentina next week.
Gomez, 30, will sign a two-year contract worth almost £5m after being told he can leave the Florence club, claim Sport Mediaset.
He was seen as a potential replacement for Rickie Lambert at Anfield.
But Gomez is heading to Turkey and Fiorentina expect to net £5.6m for the Germany international, who joined them from Bayern Munich in 2013.
As for Welbeck, the England striker may miss the start of the new season, which kicks off at Wembley next weekend when Arsenal meet Chelsea in the Community Shield.
