Reports suggest Benzema remains Arsene Wenger's top summer target.
It has been claimed that the Gunners are willing to wait until the end of the transfer window to see if Benzema is part of Rafa Benitez's plans at Real Madrid.
But reports in Spain suggest that Wenger is already eyeing a back-up plan.
The French tactician is said to have ruled out a move for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain, but is keeping tabs on Lewandowski according to El Confidencial.
Lewandowski had been linked with a move to Manchester United, although Louis van Gaal has now hinted that his priorities lie elsewhere.
