However, former Reds boss Rafa Benitez will have the final say in the midfielder's future at the Bernabeu.
If Liverpool do secure a deal for Illarramendi, he will become their fifth summer signing following Danny Ings, Adam Bodgan, James Milner and Joe Gomez to Anfield.
