Man Utd Transfer News: LVG leads Messi chase, £77m Pogba BOOST, Gaitan setback
MANCHESTER UNITED are in pole position to land Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Lionel Messi Player Profile
The Argentine skipper cast doubt over his future at the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony last night, putting Premier League suitors Chelsea, United and City on red alert.
The 27-year-old is understood to be available for £200m, with today's reports claiming only United have the funds to afford him.
"I am not sure where I will be next year," Messi said.
"I have always said that I will end my career at Barcelona but as Cristiano said: 'Only God knows the future.' Things in football can change overnight."
Manchester United are prepared to pay £77m to re-sign Paul Pogba
The Red Devils could also welcome Juventus star Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford after his agent discussed his desire to leave Serie A.
Mino Raiola on Pogba, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, said: “Will he stay in Italy? No. When the time is right to leave we’ll take that opportunity."
United have, however, been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan.
Paris Saint-Germain have targeted the Argentina international as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Ezequiel Lavezzi.
