CHELSEA have confirmed that former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will join AC Milan on a permanent basis on January 5th.

The news comes just hours after Atletico Madrid assistant coach German Burgos vowed the Spanish giants were on the verge of a deal for the forward.
Chelsea released a statement thanking Torres for his services, it read: "Chelsea Football Club thanks Fernando for his service during the past four seasons and wishes him the very best for the future."
Torres joined AC Milan on a two-year loan in August but has yet to rediscover his form managing one goal in 10 Serie A appearances.

Some are suggesting that his switch to Milan is part of a larger plan to secure a loan deal for Atletico winger Alessio Cerci, with Torres returning to his former side in exchange.
Chelsea fans are unlikely to be disappointed by the impending exit of their £50m flop, other than a few timely contributions the Spanish international has failed to justify his hefty price-tag.
The 30-year-old managed a poultry 45 goals in 172 games for Jose Mourinho's title challengers, the highlight of which was his goal against Barcelona in the semi-final of the Champions League.
