The Red Devils have seen their chances of landing Strootman significantly improve.
Louis van Gaal has been courting the £30m rated Roma midfielder for a while, and they have been given a boost with the Serie A side out of the Champions League.
This is despite the fact that Roma manager Mauro Baldissoni refuted suggestions the 24-year-old will leave in January.
He said: "This is something I'm reading every day -- and it is also something our president doesn't like to read every day."
Shaw is remaining optimistic despite being on the sidelines.
The 19-year-old left back sustained an ankle injury in the 2-1 win over Arsenal.
Shaw is thought to be out for a minimum of six weeks, but took to Twitter to give United fans an update.
He tweeted: "Can't wait to get on the pitch again, thank you everyone for your support."
Carrick thinks Valencia is the 'full package' for United.
Valencia has filled in at full-back with Rafael out injured.
And Carrick believes Valencia doesn't get enough credit.
He said: "He is pretty much the full package. He is reserved but determined at the same time."
