Steven Gerrard LAMENTS that Thierry Henry didn't make good on Liverpool transfer dream
STEVEN GERRARD has revealed that he regrets never playing with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Henry announced his retirement from football yesterday and Gerrard has joined a host of other stars in paying tribute to the French striker.
He posted a picture of the pair on Instagram with the caption: "I would of loved to play behind this legend. World class. #goalmachine"
Gerrard has played his entire career at Anfield and despite flirting with a move to Chelsea a decade ago, never really looked like crossing paths with Henry.
A move to New York Red Bulls has been touted for Gerrard next season as he stalls over signing a new deal with the Reds, but Henry has ended his association with the MLS club to take up a punditry role with Sky Sports.
Steven Gerrard wanted to play with Thierry Henry
I would of loved to play behind this legend.
Henry once admitted that Liverpool is the only other English club he considered joining, partly as a result of his desire to play with Gerrard.
He said: “A kid asked me on Wednesday if I would have liked to play for another team.
“Straight away I said Liverpool.
“First of all, I would have loved to play with Steven Gerrard and second I like the club and their fans. There’s something about Anfield that you can’t explain.
“I love it when you step out of the dressing-room and you see the Kop, the scarves, and [hear people] singing You’ll Never Walk Alone. Just that, that would do it for me."
