Arsene Wenger says Raphael Varane may NEED £19m Man Utd or Chelsea move
ARSENE WENGER believes Raphael Varane may need a move to Manchester United or Chelsea to fulfil his potential for France.
Raphael Varane isn't first choice at Real Madrid
Varane is one of the most talented young defenders in Europe but is behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe in the Real Madrid pecking order.
Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of the 21-year-old and Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the former Lens man.
Real are thought to want £19m to part with Varane, who has struggled with injuries in recent times.
And Wenger believes a move could benefit the player if it results in more regular playing time.
Raphael Varane Player Profile
He is still young, though, and he needs to play regularly at Real Madrid.
He told beIN Sports: "If he doesn't get injured, Varane will be France's No.1 defender at Euro 2016.
"He is still young, though, and he needs to play regularly at Real Madrid.
"At his age, he still makes mistakes that could cost the team goals."
It now remains to be seen whether United or Chelsea step up their interest in Varane in the coming transfer window, and whether a move to England appeals to Varane.
