Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay steps down after a decade at Stamford Bridge
CHELSEA chief executive Ron Gourlay has left Stamford Bridge after a decade of service.
Gourlay arrived at Chelsea in 2004, and helped transform the West London club into a international phenomenon with just under 400m supporters.
Gourlay replaced former Chief Executive Peter Kenyon in 2009, but is leaving to pursue new business opportunities.
The Scot, who previously worked with Manchester United and sportswear manufacturer Umbro, departs on amicable terms.
Gourlay left a farewell message on Chelsea's official website and described the role as a 'privilege.'
It has been a privilege to have played a role in the club’s considerable achievements
He said: "It has been a privilege to have played a role in the club’s considerable achievements both on and off the pitch over the last 10 years, but I feel the time is right to move on to other challenges.
"I would like to thank Mr Abramovich, the directors, the manager and players and all the staff for their support during my time at the club, and wish them much continued success in the future."
