Brendan Rogers looking to his teen stars at Liverpool
BRENDAN RODGERS is considering handing Liverpool debuts to a pair of 17-year-olds – Jordan Rossiter and Sheyi Ojo – in tonight’s Capital One Cup tie with Middlesbrough.
Rodgers is likely to rest skipper Steven Gerrard ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby but faces a midfield shortage with Joe Allen and Emre Can injured and Jordan Henderson (hip) struggling.
“These kids need a chance and if that comes we hope they can take it,” said Rodgers.
“I get excited by young players getting involved but I need to map it out. We have four big games coming up, but the most important is the next. We want to win a trophy.”
Rickie Lambert will make his full debut after his £4million move from Southampton, but Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge are out as Liverpool seek to recover from the loss to West Ham.
