Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hints at move for Liverpool's wantaway defender Daniel Agger
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has talked up a move for Liverpool's Daniel Agger in the wake of his team's Community Shield win over Manchester City at Wembley.
The Gunners were superb as they eased to a 3-0 win over the Premier League champions, with new defenders Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy both putting in impressive performances.
However, Wenger is now light on centre-backs after club captain Thomas Vermaelen joined Barcelona in a deal worth £15million, prompting speculation that he is set to make a bid for Agger.
The Dane is set for a season on the sidelines at Anfield after Brendan Rodgers splashed the cash on Southampton's Dejan Lovren, and with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho also competing for a place, Agger is seeking an exit before the end of the summer transfer window.

If I can find another centre-back I will do it
Barcelona are believed to be interest in his services, but the 29-year-old has his heart set on a move to the Emirates.
And discussing Vermaelen's move to the Nou Camp, Wenger hinted that he is ready to bring Agger to north London.
He said: "Vermaelen behaved outstandingly last year – I am grateful for him and I wish him very well.
"If I can find another centre-back I will do it. You make your position with your performances."
