Napoli given tight deadline to land £15m-rated Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini
NAPOLI must complete the signing of Marouane Fellaini before the 11th August to ensure his Champions League eligibility.
The Italian giants finished third in Serie A last-year, therefore could face a number of tricky teams in the dreaded play-off round to reach the group stages.
UEFA rules state that Napoli can register a 'maximum of one new eligible player' after the 11th August deadline - provided the quota of locally trained players is adhered to.
This means potential Napoli signings including Fellaini, Christian Eriksen and Xabi Alonso will have to battle it out for the last remaining spot.
Manchester United Premier League Preview
Napoli's pursuit of the Belgian international hinges on his Champions League availability, and failure to capture him before the cut-off point will kill any remaining hope of a deal.
Manager Rafa Benitez has been outspoken in his pursuit of the Belgian international - claiming a deal hinges on Manchester United's willingness to let him leave.
"Fellaini is a Manchester United player, it does not depend on us, but it depends on them.
"He is a great player, but he is at another team. It appears he is waiting for Van Gaal. We will have to wait."
Unfortunately time is not on Benitez's side, and any further delay on Man Utd's behalf could see the 26-year-old remain at Old Trafford.
