He's the obvious choice! Peter Schemichel endorses Wayne Rooney for Man Utd captaincy
WAYNE ROONEY has been backed to become Manchester United's next captain by Peter Schmeichel who claims he is the 'obvious choice'.
Reports emerged over the weekend that Jonny Evans was a serious contender to accept the captain's armband along with Robin van Persie.
Rooney enjoyed an excellent pre-season campaign with United in the USA and inspired them to a 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup.
And Schmeichel, who lifted a wealth of honours during his illustrious spell at Old Trafford, believes United shouldn't look past Rooney for the captaincy role.
"What I really like about Rooney is his attitude towards playing for United,” Schmeichel told Sky Sports News.

You get that with experience and matureness. So I think he’s the obvious choice for the captain
“Wherever the manager tells him to play he will do that with a smile on his face.
“He realises his importance to the team and if he has to play in midfield, it’s for the team.
