Man Utd's Di Maria failure gives Liverpool a glimmer of hope in race for Ezequiel Lavezzi
LIVERPOOL have been handed a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of PSG forward Ezequiel Lavezzi but could be deterred by the Argentine's wage demands.
Italian reports claim Lavezzi is holding out for a five-year deal worth £76,000 per-week.
With Liverpool's main rivals for Lavezzi, Juventus, hesitant to offer such a lucrative long-term contract for a 29-year-old.
The deal would make Lavezzi the Old Lady's third highest earner just behind Gianluigi Buffon and Carlos Tevez.
In addition to a five-year deal worth £20m, PSG are holding-out for either Juventus or Liverpool to meet his £18m valuation - catapulting the sum total for the 29-year-old to almost £40m.
Liverpool Premier League Preview
Juventus are by no means ending their pursuit of the forward, however negotiations will take place to figure-out a suitable deal for both parties.
Lavezzi's exit could be accelerated after news that Angel Di Maria has agreed an astronomical £60million deal to join the French champions.
Leaving Laurent Blanc's side needing to offload stars to remain within Fifa's Financial FairPlay regulations.
Juventus have enjoyed a period of unrivalled success, marching to three successive Serie A titles - winning their last by a colossal 17 points.
But despite domestic supremacy they have failed to excel in the Champions League, typified by their first-round elimination at the hands of Galatasaray last season.
Liverpool's hopes of signing the World Cup finalist rest upon Juventus' ability to match Lavezzi's wage demands - but the likelihood of Brendan Rodgers shelling-out such a vast fee on an ageing striker seem slim.
