CONFIRMED: Ashely Williams rejects Arsenal and Sunderland in favour of new Swansea deal
SWANSEA captain Ashley Williams has signed a new four-year deal with the club, ending interest from Arsenal and Sunderland in the defender.
Williams, 29, has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium for the second successive summer - with the Black Cats reportedly lining up a £5m for the Wales international.
But he has now committed himself to the Swans until 2018 and will join his team-mates on a pre-season tour of the United States this weekend.
Williams joined Swansea from Stockport for £400,000 in 2008 and will have completed a decade's service at the end of his new deal.
I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Swansea City
His previous contract had a year to run and tying him down on a long-term agreement is a significant boost for manager Garry Monk.
"I'm delighted to sign a new contract at Swansea City," said Williams, who first played for the club on loan in League One.
"I've enjoyed fantastic success at this club and I want to keep helping Swansea City progress."
