Luke Shaw's £33m move to Man Utd questioned by Andy Cole
FORMER Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes his old club may have paid over the odds to sign Southampton star Luke Shaw.
United are thought to have splashed out £33million for the England left-back, with £27m paid up front.
Shaw becomes Louis Van Gaal's second summer signing following the £29m acquisition of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.
But after making the 18-year-old the most expensive teenager in history, Cole has questioned whether the England hotshot is worth it.
"For a kid that is a hell of a lot of money," said Cole.
"He is English and that's a big plus but that's why so many managers go for foreign imports - they are cheaper.
"There is not going to be too many managers who spend nearly £40m on a young kid over a foreign import.
"Only time will tell if he is going to be a very good player if he keeps improving."
Any Cole was speaking at a Vauxhall talkSPORT Fan Hub in London.
