Claudio Ranieri in the running for Tottenham and Leeds jobs after Monaco sacking
FORMER Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has emerged as a possible candidate to take over at Tottenham next season after being sacked by Monaco earlier today.
Ranieri was relieved of his duties at the Ligue 1 club despite guiding them to a Champions League place.
Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev confirmed the news, saying: "I confirm that Claudio Ranieri is leaving soon. We decided to break up. I would like to pay tribute to Claudio Ranieri, who did a good job.
"It is never easy to take a club from Ligue 2 to the Champions League. But we believe that at this stage we need a new dynamic."
And that has seen Tottenham, Leeds and West Brom linked with a move for the Italian dubbed 'The Tinkerman' during his time at Stamford Bridge.
I confirm that Claudio Ranieri is leaving soon. We decided to break up.
Whilst AC Milan are favourites with bookmakers Ladbrokes to appoint Ranieri at 8/1, Leeds are a close second at 10/1.
Spurs are third favourites with the bookmakers at 12/1, on par with Serie A side Udinese, while West Brom are relative outsiders at 20/1.
Massimo Cellino continues to ponder the future of Brian McDermott at Elland Road and Ranieri has now demonstrated his ability to take a team from the second tier to the Champions League with the right kind of backing.
Whether he believes Cellino will provide that backing a Leeds or whether he feels he has a greater chance of success at Milan or Spurs now remains to be seen.
