Olivier Giroud's classy goal was Bergkampesque claims Paul Merson
OLIVIER GIROUD'S strike against West Ham evoked memories of Arsenal great Dennis Bergkamp according to Paul Merson.
The Frenchman collected an eye-catching pass from Thomas Vermaelen before firing through the legs of Adrian for the Gunners' second.
The goal was sandwiched in between two Lukas Podolski strikes and was a highlight for Arsene Wenger's men.
And Merson was left in no doubt about the quality of Giroud's strike.
"It was Bergkampeseque," Merson told Sky Sports.
The way he controlled the ball was fantastic and he still had a lot to do but it was a phenomenal goal
"The way he controlled the ball was fantastic and he still had a lot to do but it was a phenomenal goal.
"If Lionel Messi did that tomorrow evening in the Copa del Rey final, we would be raving about it."
Giroud's strike was his 14th league goal this campaign.
