Wayne Rooney trains with Man Utd ahead of Bayern Munich clash
MANCHESTER UNITED have been given a boost ahead of their quarter-final second-leg clash with Bayern Munich with Wayne Rooney able to train on Tuesday morning.
Rooney missed Saturday's victory over Newcastle with a foot injury and it was initially feared that the striker's injury could also prevent him playing against Bayern.
But Rooney was involved in a light workout during an open training at Carrington as United prepared to fly out to Germany.
Rooney is going to play, 100 per cent. He is going to play, I bet you a big big glass of beer.
Ryan Giggs, Patrice Evra and Jonny Evans were also all present at the session but Robin van Persie, Marouane Fellaini and Rafael did not take part.
For his part, Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is convinced Rooney will play on Wednesday.
He said: "Rooney is going to play, 100 per cent. He is going to play, I bet you a big big glass of beer."
Guardiola described Rooney as "a big player, one of the best I have seen in my career."
United managed a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford, and Rooney's presence would be a significant boost for David Moyes as he seeks to guide the Red Devils into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
