Give Sherwood time! Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers urges Spurs to stick by boss
LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers has called for Tottenham to back Tim Sherwood.
Rodgers' side handed Sherwood a humiliating 4-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon but the Liverpool boss has warned Spurs chairman Daniel Levy against a knee-jerk reaction.
Tottenham have been linked with a host of managerial candidates to take over in the summer, despite the fact that Sherwood's contract runs until the end of the next season.
Indeed, for Chelsea midfielder Ruud Gullit claimed this weekend that Louis Van Gaal was set to take over at White Hart Lane after meeting Levy at his house recently.
I hope Tim gets the time to put his ideas in place
But Rodgers believes that would be a mistake and says Sherwood just needs more time to get the best out of Tottenham's expensively assembled squad.
Speaking after the game, he said: "Tottenham have got some outstanding players, it's a great club and obviously I hope Tim [Sherwood] gets the time to put his ideas in place and if they can allow him to do that I'm sure they'll do very well."
The sentiment was at odds with those of Tottenham fans, many of whom took to Twitter to call for Sherwood to be sacked, as the tweets below demonstrate.
Timmy Sherwood get your coat son, your fired. I'll drive you somewhere more suiting to your talents. But get out of my beloved club

Sherwood has lost 9 of his 22 games in charge. To find 9 AVB defeats, you have to go back 48 matches #THFC

All I was expecting today, the only good thing that can come from this is that Sherwood must go now, I'd take 7-0 for that to happen

Sherwood needs to walk away. It's not working for him. You can't keep picking Bentaleb ahead of Sandro, Paulinho or dembele #Clueless #COYS

Tim Sherwood is unbelievably clueless. What is he doing in charge of a club like Spurs when he's less qualified to do so than me.

Doubt very much Levy will impressed by Sherwood's childish sulking in the stands, trying to shirk responsibility yet it's all his #tottenham
