Liverpool 2 - Sunderland 1: Gerrard and Sturridge goals regain second place for Reds
LIVERPOOL regain second place in the Premier League after a 2-0 home win over Sunderland, thanks to strikes from Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge.
The Reds fully deserved the win at Anfield, despite late pressure from the Black Cats after Ki Sung-Yueng pulled one back with 15 minutes to go.
The visitors will count themselves lucky to see out the match with 11 men on the field after Santiago Vergini's foul on Luis Suarez as the last man.
But up stepped Gerrard to claim the opener through a fantastic free-kick form 23 yards, leaving keeper Vito Mannone clutching thin air.
And just after the half-time restart, Sturridge curled in his 20th league goal to make sure the hosts move back above Manchester City into second place.
