PICTURES: The stunning plans for David Beckham's new Miami stadium
EX-MANCHESTER UNITED star David Beckham has grand plans for his new Miami franchise, as these stunning pictures show.
The plan, which was announced yesterday, would entail of an open stadium with a scenic view of the bay and the downtown skyline.
The 25,000-seater arena which will be built on the Port of Miami will have a restaurant and a nightclub.
Beckham, who has graced some of the world's best stadia including Old Trafford and the Bernebeu, has certainly made a statement of intent.
"Miami is all about the water, all about the culture," said Beckham, speaking from a rooftop terrace on the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College located just a few blocks from the Port of Miami.
"I don't think people see that enough.
"Our site is all about the skyline. It opens up to that. And that's what we want people to see that all around the world."
Apparently more than 30 sites were considered for the stadium including a site that is close to the city's airport.
Beckham was also pressed about whether he and his business partners could realise their ambitions without state funding.
He added: "I don't think it would be fair to say we could or couldn't.
"We just want to be treated like every other franchise. It's not an ideal world, but this is what we would like to have happen."
The proposed MLS team would also not schedule home games on the same nights as when the Heat would play, so as to ease traffic concerns.
