Man City youth Devante Cole 'racially abused and spat at' by opposition fans AND players
UEFA are investigating reports that Manchester City striker Devante Cole, son of former England forward Andy, was racially abused by players and fans of Atletico Madrid’s youth team – then spat at.
Cole, 18, scored the only goal as Patrick Vieira’s Elite Development Squad reached the quarter-finals of the Uefa Youth League with a 1-0 victory in Spain on February 26.
It has been claimed that a Uefa official made an announcement over the tannoy to warn fans about their behaviour before an Atletico player spat at Cole at the final whistle.
Manchester City have refused to comment on the incident but Uefa have now opened proceedings and Atletico will have a hearing on March 20.
Uefa’s statement said: “Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Club Atletico de Madrid Youth for improper conduct of the team and racist behaviour of their supporters.
“The case will be dealt with by the Uefa control and disciplinary body on March 20.”
