Manchester United confirm agreement reached with Chelsea over Juan Mata move
MANCHESTER UNITED have released a statement confirming they have agreed a deal with Chelsea for Juan Mata.
The statement on the official club website is the first official acknowledgement from Manchester United that a deal is in the offing.
While the details of a fee have not been announced, the statement confirmed the transfer would be for a club-record fee.
United were at pains to point out that the deal remains subject to a medical and Mata agreeing personal terms.
The statement read: "Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Chelsea Football Club for the transfer of Juan Mata for a club-record fee. The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms."
Reports this afternoon suggested that Chelsea were waiting for Mohamed Salah's transfer from Basel to be completed before allowing United to move forward with Mata.
It was suggested that confirmation of the Salah move could see Mata's confirmation pushed into next week but this statement may now bring that forward.
Similarly, Jose Mourinho said earlier today that the two clubs were still negotiating a deal but it seems that late on Friday an agreement has now been reached.
