Newcastle ready to jostle with Liverpool for 'Egyptian Messi' Mohamed Salah
NEWCASTLE are considering trumping Liverpool with their own bid for Mohamed Salah.
Brendan Rodgers has been given the go ahead to launch a move for the sought-after Basel winger who has been dubbed the 'Egyptian Messi'.
The Reds are thought to be prepared to pay closer to £7 million, though Basel value him at around £16m.
Newcastle however according to reports have their own designs on Salah and are looking to make a swoop.
Alan Pardew is also reportedly hoping to tie up a loan deal for £10m-rated Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong, with a view to making it a permanent move in the summer.
Newcastle meanwhile are trying to cling onto Yohan Cabaye, who has garnered serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the Salah saga is one that could go right down to the final day of the window.
