PICTURES: Rooney back at United HQ after Egypt break… but why so glum, Wayne?
WAYNE ROONEY was spotted at Manchester United's Carrington base this morning for the first time since returning from his warm-weather break in Egypt.
But the England striker sported a glum look as he drove his Overfinch Range Rover into United's training ground.
Perhaps Rooney is missing the warmer climes of the Mediterranean, or his mind had wandered onto United's seventh position in the Premier League.
David Moyes' side lost 3-1 at Chelsea on Sunday and are now five points of the Scot's former club Everton in sixth.
Rooney's return gives the champions a welcome boost, although he remains doubtful for tomorrow night's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg clash with Sunderland.
Moyes will hope Rooney's groin injury has cleared up since his trip to Egypt last week, but refused to put a date on the 28-year-old's comeback.
"He's back and he's looking good but he's not ready for this game," Moyes said prior to the Chelsea defeat.
"He's done some running on the grass and I don't want to put a date on his return but I've watched him running and he's in good condition. He's kept himself right while he's been away."
