AC Milan take punt on Clarence Seedorf with AVB in running for Schalke vacancy
CLARENCE SEEDORF will succeed Massimo Allegri as the new head coach of AC Milan, as former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is in the running for the Schalke vacancy.
Seedorf, who is the only player to have lifted the Champions League four times with three different clubs, has decided to bring the curtain down on an illustrious playing career.
The Dutchman, who spent 10 years at the San Siro before joining Brazilian outfit Botafogo, revealed he couldn't turn the Rossoneri when he received a call from the club's president Silvio Berlusconi.
But after 22 years at the top, Seedorf thanked Botafogo for their support.
"I am retiring from football after 22 years," he said.
"It has been a difficult night but I am satisfied by what I've achieved in my career and what I've done at Botafogo. My aim is to dream again.
"This experience at Botafogo has helped me grow a lot and will no doubt help me in my next step as coach of AC Milan.
"I wish Botafogo and my team-mates the best.
"The level has increased thanks to everyone and I'm certain that the club will be able to remain at a high level."
Seedorf could make his managerial bow when AC Milan host Hellas Verona on Sunday.
