VIDEO: Chelsea target Nemanja Matic trumped by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in goal of year award
CHELSEA target Nemanja Matic lost out to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the goal of the year award stakes.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Ibrahimovic scooped the prestigious Ferenc Puskas accolade at the Ballon d'Or ceremony held in Zurich this evening after polling nearly half of the votes.
Matic made the three-man shortlist after his thumping volley for Benfica against Porto and came runner-up with roughly 31% of the vote.
But Ibrahimovic walked off with the prize for his stunning acrobatic volley from 30 yards in a friendly for Sweden against England.
"I am very proud to be here tonight and I congratulate all the other nominees and winners. For the big trophy later, may the best man win!," Ibrahimovic said after collecting the award.
Ibrahimovic was also seen joking with Jurgen Klopp before the ceremony in which he asked about joining Borussia Dortmund before Klopp retorted that he would have to seel his whole team for that to be the case.
Brazil superstar Neymar was also vying for the award following his sublime goal for the Samba boys in the Confederations Cup against Japan finished third.
But with Chelsea closing in on re-signing Matic, it seems they have found a player who has an eye for goal!
