Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: Chelsea's Jose Mourinho is wrong on Manchester City
ARSENE WENGER has laughed off Jose Mourinho’s claims that Manchester City are strong favourites for the title.
Wenger’s Arsenal go into their clash at home to Cardiff today in top spot. And he sees no reason the Gunners cannot stay there.
Arsenal’s manager is fed up with people dismissing his team’s title credentials and insists they have what it takes to win English football’s ultimate prize for the first time in 10 years.
Chelsea manager Mourinho is the latest to back City as the most likely winners. But Wenger is sceptical.
“Do you believe Jose?” Wenger said. “City are favourites no more than Chelsea or Manchester United.
“They have a squad of names who can pretend to win it. But it is down to what we do on the pitch. Are they unbeatable? Not for me.”
Arsenal lost 6-3 at the Etihad less than three weeks ago but Wenger points to City’s repeated failings on their travels. He said: “They’ve lost a number of games away from home. They have played one more game at home, than away.
“We have played one more game away than at home. So it is open.”
Arsenal have picked up more points than any team in the Premier League over the past 12 months. Wenger said: “That does not win us a trophy, but it shows consistency and means we are going upwards.
“We want to transfer that trend into 2014 and be concrete, and have a great race in the Premier League title.”
Arsenal have injury problems ahead of the game with Olivier Giroud joining Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines.
