SFA probe into St Mirren's Jim Goodwin
SFA disciplinary chief Vincent Lunny is set to study Jim Goodwin’s controversial performance against Dundee United.
The St Mirren skipper was taken off by boss Danny Lennon before half-time for fear he would be red-carded in their 4-1 Boxing Day victory over the Terrors.
Goodwin’s first-half forearm smash on United midfielder Stuart Armstrong went unpunished by referee Bobby Madden before his replacement.
Now it’s understood Lunny is preparing to examine footage from that first-half flashpoint, meaning Buddies captain Goodwin could land in hot water.
United defender Gavin Gunning was hammered with a three-match ban back in September for kicking out at Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk in a league match at Tannadice.
And United manager Jackie McNamara reckons Goodwin was very fortunate that Lennon replaced him in a bruising St Mirren Park clash.
He said: “I spoke to Danny Lennon after the game. He thinks Jim gets singled out for certain things.
“But I think he singles himself out. His challenge on Stuart with his arm was naughty and Marc McAusland’s on Gary Mackay-Steven was a bad one too.
“I don’t want to see people sent off and it doesn’t change anything from the game.
“But I want to see the right decisions being made.
“We’re going to have to get used to it.
“I’m not saying we’re angels – we can give it out as well – but I’m just looking for consistency in decisions.”
