We'll storm City! Liverpool will play without fear insists Brendan Rodgers
LIVERPOOL are determined to ruin Manchester City’s perfect Premier League home record.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has vowed that his side will perform with “no fear” at the Etihad to underline their own championship credentials.
City will be seeking to claim a ninth straight top-flight win in front of their own fans in tonight’s mouthwatering televised showdown and overtake league leaders Liverpool.
Rodgers indulged in a spot of mind games by insisting the title is City’s to lose given their wealth of resources, but vowed his Liverpool side will not shrink into the shadows .
“We arrive there with no fear,” said Rodgers.
“We outplayed them last year, home and away. We had two draws and should have won both games.
“But we will go there with every respect for them. I believe with the squad they have, it is their title to lose. For us, we will go there and play our game.”
City, who have lost just one match at home all season – to Bayern Munich in the Champions League – will have to tame the irrepressible Luis Suarez this evening.
The Liverpool striker, who signed a new contract with the club last week, will be seeking to add to his haul of 19 goals in just 12 league games.
Suarez’s battle with Vincent Kompany will be one of the many sub-plots and Rodgers, who has 18 months left on his contract with the option of another year, said: “This is a brilliant match-up. We have been in really good form, developing our football idea all the time. We go to a team that is full of quality players.
“It should make for a great game.”
