David Moyes set to splash cash to stop Manchester United rot
MANCHESTER UNITED boss David Moyes is preparing to start spending in January, with moves for Paris Saint Germain's Blaise Matuidi and Roma's Dutch star Kevin Strootman.
Moyes believes both midfielders are available for the right money - Matuidi at £7million and Strootman for £20m - and is determined to strengthen the Old Trafford engine room, one that he feels doesn't contain enough energy and invention.
Although many of the changes he deems necessary to place his own stamp on the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson will be made next summer, Moyes doesn't intend being idle when the January window opens.
Matuidi - who is in French manager Didier Deschamps' plans for the World Cup finals - sees his contract run out at the end of the season. Unless Paris SG can persuade the 26-year-old to agree a new deal they are likely to accept bids of around £7million next month or risk losing the strong-running player for nothing in the summer. United are keen but so are Chelsea and Liverpool.
Strootman , 23, signed for Roma from PSV Eindhoven for £15m last summer and has been a revelation for the Italians in Serie A.
But Roma have cash problems and could accept a United bid in the region of £20m.
