VIDEO: Ex-Fifa official Chris Eaton calls for 'united front' in tackling match-fixing
CHRIS EATON has called for a 'united front' from the sporting community to tackle match-fixing after the former Bolton star Delroy Facey was one of six people to be questioned today on suspicion of committing the offence.
Fifa's former head of security is wary that match-fixing is not just a 'national problem' but an 'international problem' that needs to be clamped down.
"You only need to see level of police investigations in individual nations," Eaton said.
"It is a problem across all sports.
"It is a universal problem that needs a united front from everybody. It is easily winnable if there is a united front and there are no contests about who does what.
Chris Eaton on match fixing arrests
"It's on the police agenda today. You see what Australia did recently, arresting English players for match fixing.
"The problem isn't the national but the international response. I said frequently match-fixing is big global, organised.
"We need a big, global and organised approach.
"You need active, preventive investigation. Police are obsessed with prosecutions. We need to prevent match fixing."
