PICTURES: Suarez seals World Cup spot for Uruguay; now faces rush to face Everton
LUIS SUAREZ last night helped Uruguay complete the 32 teams who will compete at next summer's World Cup - after beating Jordan 5-0 on aggregate in their playoff.
Uruguay toiled to a 0-0 second leg draw at home having won 5-0 in the first leg in Jordan.
Suarez and co were unable to register on the scoresheet, but that didn't stop them wildly celebrating their progress after the final whistle.
Uruguay team-mate Edinson Cavani came closest to breaking the deadlock with two efforts going over the bar, with Suarez in industrious mood but finding himself forced wide.
Cavani and Suarez will be a threatening prospect for defenders in Brazil next summer, with the PSG hitman admitting their qualifying campaign was far from straightforward.
"We're all happy because the truth is it's been a hard road," said Cavani. "We have to enjoy it."
Both players will be hoping to taste success with their clubs during the rest of the domestic campaign, before heading back to South America in just over six months time.
Liverpool are hopeful of fielding Suarez in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday lunchtime, despite Uruguay's game finishing just 60 hours before kick-off at Goodison Park.
Reds owner John W Henry has offered the striker use of his jet in a bid to rush him back for the clash.
Suarez may not be able to train before the game, but the 7,000-mile trip looked far from his thoughts last night!
