REVEALED: Phil Jones apologised to Wayne Rooney for training-ground collision
ENGLAND utility-man Phil Jones admits he apologised to Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney for causing the horrific gash to his head earlier in the season.
Jones' infamous training-ground collision with Rooney left the striker needing stitches to patch up a severe cut on his forehead.
And while the pair have since put the incident behind them, Jones reveals he did apologise to his club and country colleague.
"It was a bit clumsy from me,” said Jones, who picked up a scab above his right eye during United's 1-0 win over Arsenal.
"The first thing I did after training was to go and see how he was. To be fair, he took it well.
"He did not try to knock me out or anything. There were no verbals. I think he was more worried about his cut.
"I apologised and we had a laugh and a joke about it and he’s alright. It’s healed nicely."Getting in the wars during matches is not uncommon for Jones, who clashed with Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud and collided with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny at Old Trafford.
And the 21-year-old concedes getting into scrapes is just a part of his nature.
"I do get a few bumps and bruises," confessed Jones.
"That’s just the way I play and I’m not going to change. I want to be strong and aggressive in attack and defence and it so happens that I pick up a few knocks.
"I’ve always been the same, with cuts and grazes from falling over in the playground; knees, ankles and all sorts in Sunday League football but I’ve never broken any bones."
