Cardiff City's deals chief in visa row
CARDIFF'S turbulent Premier League season took another twist as new head of recruitment, Alisher Apsalyamov, was forced to stand down following a visa probe.
Home Office officials visited the Welsh capital this week over the work permit of 23-year-old Apsalyamov, who replaced the experienced Iain Moody last month.
Immigration chiefs are believed to have spoken to senior staff at Cardiff amid claims that the Kazakh had only received visa documents to support a 12-month internship at the Cardiff City Stadium.
But Cardiff are confident the issue can be resolved.
Apsalyamov, a friend of owner Vincent Tan’s sons, received a surprise promotion to take over from transfer chief Moody, Malky Mackay’s right-hand man. With the move sparking fears over Mackay’s future, Malaysian billionaire owner Tan publicly backed the Scot.
The pair are set to have a first face-to-face meeting since Moody’s shock exit at Sunday’s derby with Swansea.
