Watford 1 - Wigan 0: Lucky Gianfranco Zola staying put
GIANFRANCO ZOLA looks set to stay at Watford despite Sunderland’s interest – and with luck like this who could blame him?
Wigan and boss Owen Coyle were left furious after two big decisions went against them before sub Cristian Battochio’s late winner.
Nick Powell saw his first-half effort ruled out for a tight offside call against a team-mate. Then Powell could have had a penalty after Lloyd Doyley’s clumsy challenge. But Battochio, 21, struck with a first league goal of the season from 20 yards after 83 minutes.
Coyle said: “We had a perfectly good goal disallowed and we had a stonewall penalty denied us.”
Zola said: “It was probably one of the toughest games since I have been here.”
