Arsenal look to Nicklas Bendtner to step up after missing out on Man Utd's Wayne Rooney
ARSENE WENGER believes he has found the striker to prevent him bidding again for Wayne Rooney – Nicklas Bendtner.
As options go, the answer seems obvious in a choice between Manchester United’s England star and the wayward Dane. But Arsenal boss Wenger is giving Bendtner the chance to save him £25?million in the January sales.
Wenger made a move for Rooney but does not yet know if he will approach United again – and said he definitely will not need to if Bendtner and rookie Yaya Sanogo provide back-up to Olivier Giroud.
Bendtner, 25, looked certain to leave Arsenal this summer but Wenger said: “He was supposed to go, but he stayed, and once he stays you have to consider him.
“He lost his way a little bit, but he is not a bad boy. He took the easy way a little bit but now he realises there are some signals in your career when players think that is the moment for them. He has got the message.”
Asked if he was still interested in Rooney, Wenger said: “I don’t know. I will wait until December.”
