Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio fined £8,000 after red mist against Arsenal
SUNDERLAND boss Paolo Di Canio has been fined £8,000 by the FA after accepting a charge of misconduct.
Di Canio was sent to the stands after a lively exchange with referee Martin Atkinson in the closing stages of their 3-1 defeat at home to Arsenal.
The Italian's frustrations boiled over after the referee decided not to allow Jozy Altidore's 'goal' which would have levelled the game at 2-2.
"(Atkinson) came to me and said: 'If you keep going with your manner I will send you up to the stand'," Di Canio told the BBC in his post-match interview.
"I said to him: 'If you want to complete a perfect job, you send me off'. And that is what he did. I will never invite the referee to send me off again."
An FA statement explained the decision it took. It read: "Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has been fined the standard penalty of £8,000 after he admitted an FA misconduct charge in relation to his behaviour during his side's game against Arsenal on Saturday 14 September 2013.
Di Canio is free to take his place on the touchline against West Brom.
